Richard

"Do You Like Hurting Other People ?"

That's is one of the best line from this game. It's literally asking the players are they enjoying the game. The art style, the violence, the characters, the story, the masks and the soundtrack.  One of the best game I have played so far.

Hotline Miami 2!

Well, I couldn't resist creating the fan art while listening to their fantastic soundtracks.

Gundala - Gundala: Awakening

This was one of my entry for a Gundala fan art contest in Popcon;

Just for the information, Gundala is one of the early Indonesian's superhero.

So, this character, Gundala, is the main hero of the show:

This is the original look of the character:

So, I decided to give him a new look and background story so it fits more into the modern superhero's world.

Here's the new look:

the background story:

With all respect to the original story, here presented is an alternative story of Gundala :
The main hero of this story was born in a rich and respectable family. A young smart boy who could easily get everything he needed and wanted from his parents. Being spoiled with wealth, he attended a famous school for rich kids. As he grew up as teenager, he started to grow bored of being a nice guy. He wanted to try something new, something adventurous that could pump his youth blood, a life different from being a common good man. Thus, he befriended the bad kids around his neighborhood. With his wealth, it wasn’t difficult to be accepted in the gang. He spent his days hanging out with punks, joining motorcycle gangs, and quarrelling with other guys. He did any kind of bad stuffs to satisfy his inner rebellious side. He no longer cared about his family.
Growing up as a rebellious teenager was something his parents never expected. As any other parents, they were hoping that their only son could grow well as a fine gentleman and inherit their family business. Yet, reality spoke differently. A son they once proud of had become a son they were ashamed of. Their hearts were broken each time they heard bad rumors about him from the neighbors.
As the relationship grew cold between the parents and son, an unexpected accident happened. It happened so fast that the next moment he opened his eyes, he saw himself in a hospital. His whole body was injured terribly and his consciousness hadn’t totally recovered. It was the next morning that he knew his parents were dead and due to his health condition, he wasn’t able to attend their funeral. Being guilty that he was the one causing the fatal accident, he blamed himself for days. He regretted his miserable life, being desperate of the fact that he was his parents’ murderer. When he went home from the hospital, he took a decision to stop living a bad life and fulfill his parents’ wish. He changed for good. Not only that, he also realized that the accident had given him a special ability : a power to control lightning.
With a new heart and power, a hero was born. He took a disguise and named himself : Gundala.

(Thanks to my friend Silvia for helping me with the grammar and arrangement)

I want to create this character as the guy that people hate at first, but lovable with the story goes on.  I want him to develop, become more mature with all the problem he went through. How he transform from a normal guy into the Superhero.

Hope you enjoy the story!

Cheers!

Pengkor - Gundala: Awakening

This was one of my entry for a Gundala fan art contest in Popcon;

Just for the information, Gundala is one of the early Indonesian's superhero.

So, this character, Pengkor, is the bad guy of the show.

This is the original look of the character:

So, I decided to give him a new look and background story so it fits more into the modern superhero's world.

Here's the new look:

:

the background story:

With all respect to the original story, here presented is an alternative story of Pengkor.
Blessed with extraordinary intelligence and abundance wealth of his parents, Pengkor grew up as a fine gentleman who educated himself in many top institutions all over the world. His intelligence prodigy allowed him to study in best places and meet important people from different countries. Steady and sure, day by day, leadership instinct grew inside young Pengkor. Certainly, he was born to lead.
Being well-aware of his leadership ability, Pengkor went back to his hometown and decided to help his parents ran the family company. Without doubt, he succeeded. Not only his company’s reputation greatly increased, he also proved himself a perfect leader by achieving many awards in a very short of time. But after one success lead to another, his dark side emerged. His perfectionism upon rule and order had surpassed the limit. In no time, he had become a control freak. He started to ignore his family, even looked down on them. He believed that he was the chosen one, the only one born to lead the world in balance.
Pengkor was greatly influenced in the principle of balance. He believed that evil and good was created to balance the world. With his ability to lead as well as his abundant wealth, he took control of both evil and good of the world. Everything were in his hands : people, economy, politics, etc. He played God by trying to put everything in order. For him, the world would be a better place if there was balance between good and evil.
His peace didn’t last long. A hero named Gundala was heard to fight underground against the evil. For Pengkor, fighting evil was an act to destroy balance. Thus, he was furious as he felt his world balance was shaken. Now he won’t stop at anything to get rid of Gundala and reclaim his world back.

(Thanks to my friend Silvia for helping me with the grammar and arrangement)

I really want to make this character as a layered characters, complex, that in the end we got impression that actually, this guy just do something necessary for him to do. Just maybe in the way that we can't really accept.

Hope you guys enjoy the character!

Cheers!

Masked Rider Arimbi

A fan art of Masked Rider Bima. Instead of the male version, i decided to create the female version of the rider. and fyi, I took Arimbi because she's Bima's wife, so i think it will be a perfect fit for the female version of the rider.

The final shot:

Some WIP's screenshots:

I did the modeling in Zbrush, Did some layout and hair impression before i did it with Fibermesh. And then I Zremesh the subtools and then exporting them into Maya.

I set up all the materials inside maya, mainly with mia_material_x_passes, and after all the passes (Diffuse, Specular, AO, Indirect, Reflection, and some rim lights) rendered out, I comp them in Photoshop.

Cheers!

Shadow Puppet

I tried to create more exotic robots, referred from Indonesia's wayang kulit shows. I took from one of the wayang mask, and I use slim shape because since i want it to look more agile. The "hidden blade" shape's referred from Keris, well i just take the basic shape from the weapon. And then i added Batik pattern into some of the parts of the robot.

So in the end i called it Shadow Puppet.

Here's the Final look:

And then the WIP's:

After I did my basic sketch, which I didn't show here (sorry!), I start with Basic shapes in Zbrush. Figuring out how the flow and the shapes of the character will be on the final looks. If i didn't have basic sketch, most of the time i will draw in the screenshot to figure out more of the character's final look.

After I'm happy with the overall shape, i goes into detail with my last workflow.

Mask > Extract > Zremesh > EdgeLoop. Basically it's how i do things lately. I like to keep my polycount as low as possible. (Well i didn't really take care of the topology for this one though)

In this stage some of the parts already out of the basic sketch, but the basic idea still the same.

So i just did this guy in half side in zbrush, and after that i GoZ it to Maya.

I duplicate things from left to right. At this stage, I also tried to put things on Keyshot and do some material testing.

After i feel quite sure with the color scheme i want to go to. I went back to maya and give the robot a simple rigging (Group and Parents). And pose the guy.

And then proceed to keyshot for materials and rendering.

Here's the final render from keyshot.

And after this I did a lot of detailing with Photoshop until it become the final comp above.
Well, maybe for the next one i want to getting deeper on the topology and texturing.

Cheers!
